Kalasatama – Helsinki, Finland
Helsinki’s Kalasatama inner-city district now under construction will be an area for housing and jobs, developed with new solutions for the Smart City.
Once completed, Kalasatama will be home to 20,000 residents. The Kalasatama centre, REDI, in the heart of the district will include a shopping centre with parking, six high-rise residential buildings over 100 metres tall, and a hotel and office tower.
The high-rises and adjacent parks will combine residential space, commercial services and rewarding lifestyles in unique ways. Residents and visitors can enjoy the Suvilahti Cultural Centre built into a former power plant, The Abattoir, a former slaughterhouse being developed into a centre of good food, and the services of the Helsinki Wholesale Market.
Office construction is already underway in Kalasatama. The office spaces are designed to serve the varied needs of a broad range of both Finnish and international businesses of all sizes. The many benefits to businesses in Kalasatama include excellent transport connections.
Kalasatama is a spearhead site for smart urban development. Smart Kalasatama will rely on co-operation among the City, businesses and residents. The district is envisioned to promote resident-oriented development, new business activity and innovations.
