National Heart Centre - Singapore

BEST INNOVATIVE GREEN BUILDING

National Heart Centre
Singapore
Architect: ONG&ONG Pte Ltd
Developer: Ministry of Health
Other: ONG&ONG Pte Ltd (landscape design); Broadway Malyan (medical planning and interior consultation)

A competition-winning entry for Southeast Asia’s first sustainable heart centre, the National Heart Centre’s design concept is inspired by Middle Ages medicinal courtyard gardens and emphasises “placing people first”.

A network of open spaces promotes social interaction, retail opportunities and healing. Natural light, ventilation and view aid healing while the planting absorbs carbon, filters pollutants and reduces heat.

The use of modern modular building methods optimises structural adaptability to growth and rapid medical advancements.

Such rigorous environmental, social and economic design transforms the National Heart Centre into a world-class facility that sets a global precedent for sustainable heart-related healthcare developments.
