80 billion dollars for the Plan Nord Development in the province of Quebec, in Canada.
Canada is offering numerous opportunities for the development of natural resources, and real estate expertise is required. The newly launched Plan Nord project in Quebec will be one of the biggest sites in the world in terms of economic, social and environmental development. With 63 cities to develop over the next 25 years, Plan Nord represents an 80 billion dollar investment.
The Plan Nord presents many opportunities for architects and developers around the world, as it calls for new ways of building which are sustainable, flexible and adapted to the environmental conditions of the North. The Plan Nord is seen by the Ordre des architectes du Québec as a unique and rare laboratory for durable architecture. To respect the specificities of this 1.2 million kilometre region, building designers will have to change their ways of thinking and find new solutions. These new building principles will be analyzed and shared as the expertise for sustainable architecture evolves.
The president of the Ordre des architectes du Québec, Mr. André Bourassa, gave a conference on the Plan Nord at MIPIM’s Building Innovation Conferences. The Ordre des architectes du Québec represents 6,000 architects and professionals.
