Summit proposes guidance to steer town planning
City-focused trend workshop encourages suburban and downtown retailers to work together.
The second Retail in the City summit concluded that the perceived opposition between downtown retail and suburban and out-of-town retail sites should no longer be the mainstay of planning decisions in European towns and cities.
Forty city experts and local government officials participated in the 90-minute roundtable event, which took place on the first day of MAPIC under the stewardship of Betrand Boulle, president and founder of French-based planning consultancy Mall & Market.
Working groups are now looking into the feasibility of producing information which could act as a guide for both developers and local authorities on the modern requirements of retail planning.
